With the LBNE decision to base the far detector technology on liquid argon we have begun an R&D program to investigate designs for a photon detector that could be used to enhance the capability of a LAr time projection chamber. First year graduate student Ryan Wasserman has been focused on this project.
The photo to the right shows a PC board used to readout the APD-based photo-sensors we plan to use. Each component of the photo-sensor device package has been tested in liquid nitrogen to ensure that they will survive in LAr.
