Over the past 2 years we developed and tested prototype devices to enhance the light collection efficiency of photomultiplier tubes that were to be used in a 200 kiloton water Cerenkov detector for the LBNE far detector. This work is the PhD thesis of PhD student William Johnston.
This image shows two of the prototypes sandwiched together and mounted on a high quantum efficiency PMT. The color is the result of shining a black light on the devices.
