DUNE Photon Detection Workshop

Meeting Description

Fort-CollinsWe will be holding a DUNE photon detection workshop at CSU on May 17th and 18th, 2016. The meeting will take place over one and a half days with the first day (Tuesday) dedicated to meetings pertaining to PD planning and the 1/2 day dedicated to discussion of getting new groups up and running at their institutions.

The DUNE Collaboration meeting will take place immediately following the PD meeting at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota. Instructions on getting to SDSMT follow.

There will be no registration fee for the meeting or cost for parking. The meeting dinner will take place at the Mainline Brewery and will be provided at no cost (there will be a cash bar) thanks to support from the Department of Physics, College of Natural Sciences, and HEPPA Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence. I will have details at the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting can be found here.

Getting to CSU and Parking

The closest airport is the Denver International Airport. From DIA you can rent a car and drive (a little more than an hour drive) or take a shuttle from either (Green Ride or Super Shuttle) which are about $30 each way.

If you are renting a car you can use the following driving instructions to get to CSU.

The most straightforward way to get to Fort Collins from DIA is to take the toll road, E-470, to get to I-5 northbound. The E-470 on-ramp is clearly marked, watch the signs as you leave the airport. Tolls are now collected by photographing license plates and sending bills to owners of vehicles; see the E-470 website for more information. Once you reach the interchange with I-25, shortly after the second tollbooth, head north on I-25. In about a half-hour, traffic permitting, you will approach Fort Collins. Go past the Harmony Road and Prospect Road exits and take the next one, Exit 269 and head west (towards the mountains!) about 5 miles into town. This road becomes Mulberry St. You will come to a large street, College Ave, with a Safeway supermarket on the corner. Turn left (south), and go to Laurel St., where you will make a right (heading west).

As shown on the detailed map, in only a few blocks you will come to Meldrum, where you turn left onto the CSU campus, directly into the parking lot north of the Engineering building. The Physics Department entrance is in the D Wing of the Engineering building.

Parking passes are required to park in the lot next to the Physics and Engineering building (see map below). I have passes for those who will need one. I will have a student pass them out as people arrive at the Physics building. Fines are handed out if cars are parked without a pass ($30) so please be sure to get a pass. The passes are valid for any non-metered spot in the lot indicated on the map below.

Meeting Room Location

The meetings will be held in the E-Wing of the Physics end of the Engineering building. There will be signage posted and students around to help with directions.

Places to Stay

There are two hotels very close (walking distance) to the Physics department, the Best Western and the Hilton. There is also the Armstrong Hotel which is about 1 mile from the Physics department.

Getting to SDSMT

The directions for driving to SDSMT are here. Google maps lists the time as a bit more than 5 hours.
