Liquid Argon Cryo Facility

As part of our LBNE work we are currently constructing a cryogenics facility where we will be able to perform a wide array of tests on prototype photon detector devices. The facility will house a 20 liter, a 40 liter, and a 500 liter research cryostats. The 500 liter vessel is more than 2.5 meters in length allowing full sized detector elements to be tested.. The 40 liter dewar is shown in the image on the left – engineer Dave Warner is removing the cryostat lid in preparation for machining and attachment of feedthroughs.
