Dylan Yost receives NSF CAREER Award

01/18/2017 Principle Investigator, Dylan Yost, has just received the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award to investigate laser cooling of atomic hydrogen. This award is given in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars and is meant to integrate education and research.

New publication: Yb fiber amplifier at 972.5 nm with frequency quadrupling to 243.1 nm

12/19/2016 We just published our first paper in applied physics B on our 243nm laser system.

Abstract:

We demonstrate a continuous-wave ytterbium-
doped ber amplier which produces 6.3 W at a wave-
length of 972.5 nm. We frequency-quadruple this source
in two resonant doubling stages to generate 530 mW at
243.1 nm. Radiation at this wavelength is required to excite
the 1S–2S transition in atomic hydrogen and could there-
fore nd application in experimental studies of hydrogen
and anti-hydrogen.
