Welcome to the Yost Research Group at Colorado State University (CSU). Our research group uses ultrastable lasers to study simple atoms (such as hydrogen and antihydrogen).  Ultimately, such measurements test fundamental theories such as  quantum electrodynamics. Our experiments can be made more precise with cold atoms, so we are also investigating laser cooling simple atoms, which requires the development of high power UV lasers.

Our laser amplification stage at 972 nm and doubling stages to 243 nm. The background is our hydrogen source and the top is our heavily “home-built” electronic system for controlling the experiment.
